Walking School Buses Are a Go!

The Fall 2016 Walking School Bus season has begun! This year our program kicked off with International Walk and Bike to School Day on October 5th at the following schools:

Holmes Elementary

Logan Elementary

Seth Woodard Elementary

Bemiss Elementary

Please contact your school’s Safe Routes Liaison with specific questions about the program at your child’s school.

We still need more volunteers to be alternates to help walk children safely to school. Please contact Annie Szotkowski, Walking School Bus Organizer, at: 509.324.1452 if you or someone you know is available to volunteer between 7:15-8:15am weekdays.

Happy walking!

Fall 2016 Challenge Begins August 30th at Logan and Bemiss

Spokane is back in school!

Parents will start to see Safe Routes Challenge Travel Logs sent home from school with students biweekly starting in September. Additional Safe Routes Logs are available in your school office and/or on the Safe Routes display board.

Whether you are a parent or student, participating in the Challenge Program is easy! Parents can help their children circle the picture for how their student gets to school each day and remind their student to turn in their logs to their teacher or school office at the end of each month.

Students get points for walking or biking safely to and from school every day. Liaisons tally points and enter them into a monthly drawing for students to be recognized with fun safety gear related to walking and biking to school.

Before winter break, a grand prize winner will be announced for a new kids bike and helmet of the winning student’s choosing, compliments of a generous donation from The Bike Hub.

Don’t delay, talk with your child and start those Travel Logs today!

Walking School Bus Launch – Logan Elementary
